Currency conversion in ShipperHQ

Ensure accurate shipping rates with currency settings in ShipperHQ

Table of Contents

Overview

If your website uses multiple currencies or if you have carriers with accounts that use different currencies, you may notice a difference between the shipping rates generated by ShipperHQ and the amounts charged for shipping at checkout. Understanding how currencies are managed in ShipperHQ can help identify and address these discrepancies.

Setting Base Currency in ShipperHQ

In ShipperHQ, you can set your base currency by navigating to My account > Global settings. This base currency is the one in which your shipping rates are defined within ShipperHQ and should match the base currency used on your eCommerce platform.

💡 Certain carriers may return rates in a currency different from your ShipperHQ Base Currency (e.g., DHL and UPS often return rates in the currency of your account's country). In such cases, ShipperHQ will return rates in that currency to the eCommerce platform.

Does ShipperHQ Handle Currency Conversion?

No, ShipperHQ does not handle currency conversion. We return shipping rates in the base currency set in ShipperHQ or the currency provided by the carrier if different. When we return rates, we specify the currency used for each rate so that currency conversions can be managed by the eCommerce platform.

If you operate stores with multiple currencies, ensure that proper currency conversion rates are configured within your eCommerce platform, either through the platform's native functionality or a third-party app.

💡 For Magento Users

Shipping rates will not display at checkout unless:

  • Magento uses the same Base Currency as your ShipperHQ account
  • You have configured currency conversion rates in Magento if you use more than one currency (e.g., for different websites)
  • You have currency conversion rates configured in Magento for any carrier returning rates in a currency different from your ShipperHQ Base Currency
