Box Definitions

To start, add a new box for each type used in shipping within ShipperHQ. Specify the box's length, width, height, and, if known, the maximum quantity or weight. Note that the maximum weight includes the packing weight as well.

Packing Rules

Packing Rules help organize box options based on product type. For instance, if you have 8ft rods that fit into three different box types, create a rule named "8FT_RODS" and assign these three boxes to it. This setup indicates that products adhering to this rule can be packed in any of the three boxes, contingent on weight, quantity, and dimensions.

Product Setup

In your eCommerce platform, assign packing rules to your products. For Magento, this process is automatic, while on Bigcommerce or Shopify, ensure the group name matches that in ShipperHQ.

Consider these product fields:

  • Ship Separate: Determines if a product ships in its own box (1 SKU = 1 package).
  • Product Weight: Only fits up to the maximum weight in a box.
  • Product Quantity: Only fits up to the maximum quantity in a box.
  • Product Dimensions: If available, compares product volume with box volume for space allocation. For instance, if a product's volume is 30 and the box's is 90, then only three items fit.

Using Dimensions to Adjust Max Quantity Per Product

Adjust the quantity that can fit in a box by utilizing dimensional volume. For example, if you have Rod A and Rod B, and a Large Tube, different quantities of each fit based on their volumes.

Consider a tube with dimensions resulting in a total volume of 5000. To fit 10 of Rod A into the tube, its volume needs to be 500 (5000/10). Rod B, fitting 50 into the tube, would have a volume of 100.

This method allows you to adjust packing knowing a new package is required if the box capacity is exceeded.
