Dimensional Packing: Ship Separately for First Quantity
Optimize packaging by defining specific dimensional rules for mixed product shipping
Table of Contents
Overview
In this guide, we'll explore how to manage dimensional packing for products like boxes of tissues. When these items are in the cart individually, they should ship using their own dimensions. However, if multiples of these items are added to the cart, they can be packed together as a single package. 😊
Requirements
To use boxes and dimensions effectively, you must enable the Dimensional Shipping feature.
Setup
To configure this setup, define boxes that are slightly larger than the product dimensions. For example, if a box of tissues measures 3x2x3, you can create a box with dimensions of 3.1x2.1x3.1. Assign this as an applicable box for the product. 🔧
This setup ensures that a single box of tissues ships in the 3.1x2.1x3.1 box. When there are two or more items in the cart, larger boxes will be used.
Scenario: Shipping with Other Products
In this scenario, you also sell mugs, which are packaged in their own boxes. If there's one box of tissues or one mug in the cart, each ships in its own box. However, when both products are in the cart, they can ship together in a single box.
For the mug, define a box slightly larger than its dimensions (4x3x4). Create distinct packing rules:
- One rule with the 4.1x3.1x4.1 box and larger boxes for both the mug and tissues
- Another rule with the 3.1x2.1x3.1 box and larger boxes for both items
Assign the first rule to the mug and the second rule to the tissues. This setup ensures that each product ships in its own box when alone. When they are together, shared larger boxes enable combined shipping. 💡
