Dimensional Packing: Configure Boxes to be Used for All Products

In the context of dimensional packing, the aim is often to configure a selection of boxes and allow the system to choose the best one(s) based on the overall volume of the product(s). For situations where products need to pack into certain boxes, or require freedom to pack in any available box, you can adjust settings accordingly. 😊

Setup

Pack all products into any available box

To apply the "Can be used to pack all products" automated feature for all products and boxes, follow these steps:

  • Manually: Edit each box individually and ensure the "Can be used to pack all products" checkbox is selected.
  • Via CSV: Export the boxes CSV and set the "All products" column to Yes. Re-import it when done. 💡

Pack specific products into specific boxes & remaining products into any available box

For scenarios where certain products should pack into specific boxes, and others into any box, you'll need to use packing rules:

Create a rule for your specific products & boxes

  • Set up the desired boxes for specific products and ensure "Can be used for all products" is unchecked or set to "No."

  • Go to packing rules, create and name a rule according to the product types you wish to pack using the boxes created.

    • Select "Pack according to box rules" for the Method of Packing.
    • Under "Possible Shipping Boxes," add your newly created boxes.
    • Assign this rule to the desired product(s) in your eCommerce platform settings. See Magento example for more details.

Create a rule for all other products (optional)

  • Create a packing rule named "All Products" or another descriptive name.
    • Choose "Pack according to box rules" for the Method of Packing.
    • Leave "Possible Shipping Boxes" blank to utilize default boxes that are set to "Yes" for "Can be used for all products."
    • Opt to "Default this rule for all products."

💡 Products under a "Pack according to box rules" will use both specifically selected boxes and those available for all products. To pack items separately in set boxes, consider using a Pack Separately or Pack into Multiple Fixed Boxes packing rule.
