Requirements

Make sure your UPS Carrier is set up with UPS Ground as an available shipping method.

Steps: Apply Flat Rate to Group ONLY

  1. Create a Shipping Group. We'll name it PERISHABLE.
  2. In the left-hand navigation, go to Shipping Rules and click the + New button to add a new rule.
  3. Select Override Rates.
  4. Set the override type to Flat Rate, enter an amount (e.g., 5.99), and select "Apply this rate to Each Shipping Group in the Cart".
  5. Under “For These Shipping Methods...”, choose the methods you wish to override with the flat rate. For this example, select UPS Ground.
  6. When conditions apply, choose Shipping Groups and select your shipping group (e.g., PERISHABLE).
  7. Name your rule and add a description to clarify its purpose. For instance, "$5.99 on UPS Ground for Perishable items".
  8. Click "Finish" to save the rule.

Once saved, any product in the shipping group will always override its standard UPS cost to $5.99, as defined in the rule.

Steps: Apply Flat Rate to Cart

  1. Create a Shipping Group. We'll name it PERISHABLE.
  2. In the left-hand navigation, go to Shipping Rules and click the + New button to create a new rule.
  3. Select Override Rates.
  4. Set the override to Flat Rate, enter an amount (e.g., 5.99), and apply this rate to:
  5. Select "Each Shipment in the Cart" or leave the default option under "And Apply This Rate To...".
  6. Under “For These Shipping Methods...”, select the methods you wish to override with the flat rate. For this example, choose UPS Ground.
  7. When conditions apply, select Shipping Groups and pick the group you created, e.g., PERISHABLE.
  8. Name your rule and add a description that will help you in the future. For instance, "$5.99 on UPS Ground when Perishable in cart".
  9. Save your rule.

This rule will apply the selected method's override for the entire cart whenever your specified group is present.

Important Notes

💡 You have the option to set the rate by each item, the entire cart, the origin, or per each box containing PERISHABLE items. Use the Apply Shipping Rate/Percentage dropdown for this flexibility.
