Set up weight-based free shipping rules for orders using ShipperHQ

Overview

This guide helps you set up a free shipping rule to offer a specific shipping method for free when a certain weight threshold is reached. We'll show you how to offer free UPS Ground shipping for orders over 100 pounds.

Requirements

Ensure you have your UPS Carrier configured with UPS Ground as an available shipping method.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the Shipping Rules option in the left navigation menu and click +New.

    Click New to create a new shipping rule.

  2. When asked to select the action you would like to perform, choose Offer Free Shipping.

    Location to select Offer Free Shipping as the action for rule.

  3. Decide how to apply your free shipping option.

    Setting to select how the free shipping will apply to the cart as per the rule.

  4. Select the method(s) you want to offer for free. Choose Ground, or any other options you prefer, to override them with free shipping.

  5. Choose Weight as the condition for applying the rule.

    Location to select Weight as the condition for the free shipping rule to apply.

  6. Specify the weight for offering free shipping. We’ll use 100 Lbs, but you can adjust depending on your preference.

    Free shipping filter options include:

    • Price is Greater than or Equal to
    • Between or Equal to for a set price range
    • Price is Less than or Equal to

    You can apply this to:

    • Whole Cart—sets the price for designated methods to free for the entire order
    • Everything in Shipping Group—applies free shipping to specific shipping groups only
    • Everything at Origin—promotes sales from a specific warehouse
    • Each Item Within Shipping Group—sets different shipping groups while excluding others

    The weight entered will create a new Weight Filter automatically. To edit or update this filter in the future, access it under the Filters section in the left navigation menu.

  7. After applying your weight filter, a summary of the shipping rule will appear. Add a title for easy identification in the shipping rules list and when testing.

  8. Click Finish to save the new rule. This will apply the rule immediately.

    Use the "Test your Rates" feature to confirm the new rule works as intended.

Other Options

By combining the price filter with other Shipping Groups or Shipping Zones, you can create more specific scenarios for offering free shipping. You can also use this approach to apply Flat Rate shipping in certain circumstances.
