How to configure Shipping Groups

Group products to apply specific shipping rules and streamline delivery setup

Table of Contents

Overview

Shipping Groups help you organize products with similar shipping rules. Imagine them as categories on your eCommerce platform. For instance, if you have a furniture store, you might have different shipping rules for BEDS, CUPBOARDS, and MIRRORS. Naming them in all caps can reduce typos and make them stand out more easily. 😊

Creating Shipping Groups

  1. In the ShipperHQ dashboard, navigate to Shipping Groups > +Add New.
  2. Enter the name of the group in the Basic panel.
  3. The Optional panel lets you restrict the group to certain Destinations and Shipping Methods. The Advanced panel offers more settings. We advise skipping these unless necessary.
  4. Click Save to finalize your shipping group.

Assign a name and describe the purpose of the shipping group in ShipperHQ.

Adding Shipping Groups via CSV Import

You can add Shipping Groups by importing a CSV file, which is helpful for managing multiple groups. Start by creating one Shipping Group, export it, and use the structure as a template for your imports. If you have an existing CSV, modify it to match the fields in the exported file.

Assigning Products to Shipping Groups

Shipping Groups are a core component of ShipperHQ and supported across all platforms. The process for assigning products varies by platform:

Optional Settings

Restrict to Specific Methods or Zones

You can restrict a Shipping Group to specific Shipping Methods or Zones. This ensures only selected methods or destinations will return rates.

For more details, see how to restrict products to certain shipping zones.

⚠️ Please note: Restrictions affect a shipping group regardless of other groups in the cart. Use shipping rules when you need different methods based on combined shipping groups. More info on working with multiple shipping groups.

Advanced Settings

Lead Time (in Days)

Set a specific Lead Time for this group. This overrides other Lead Time settings and requires the Date & Time feature.

Max Time in Transit

Limit the Max Time in Transit to hide methods exceeding the specified duration.

Cut off Time

Set a Cut off Time for product dispatch days, using the earliest time available.

Freight Class

Assign a Freight Class, useful for LTL Freight Carriers, requiring the LTL Freight feature.

Must Ship Freight

Show LTL Freight carriers for products below the freight weight threshold. This also requires the LTL Freight feature.

Rate Products Separately

Calculate shipping for items in this group separately like a different origin. Requires Multi-Origin & Dropship Feature.

SKU-Based Shipping Group

Use SKU-based rules to match against product SKU codes. For example, "LARGESIZE" matches any SKU containing this text, such as "SM1-LARGESIZE".

Exclude from Carrier Weight Threshold Checks

Useful when excluding certain products from weight checks. For instance, products in a group with this setting checked can bypass the Max Shipment Weight threshold.
