Weight and Dimension Conversion in ShipperHQ

Ensure accurate shipping rates by aligning weight and dimension units in ShipperHQ and eCommerce platforms

Table of Contents

Overview

Ensuring accurate rate calculations in ShipperHQ depends significantly on using consistent units of weight and dimensions across your configurations. 😊

Setting ShipperHQ Weight and Volume Units

You can configure the Unit of Weight and Unit of Volume (dimensions) within your ShipperHQ account by navigating to My Account > Global Settings. Options include pounds (Lbs) or kilograms (Kgs) for weight, and inches, feet, yards, centimeters, or meters for dimensions. These settings apply to various elements like Filters, Live Rate and Table Rate Carriers, and Dimensional Boxes.

Units of Weight and Dimension and eCommerce Platforms

It's best to use the same units of weight and volume as your eCommerce platform to avoid mistakes. For instance, if your products are in pounds and inches, configure ShipperHQ the same way. While platforms like Shopify and BigCommerce allow for different units by converting them, this can lead to slight discrepancies and complexity, particularly when setting up weight-based filters. For other platforms, use identical units both on your eCommerce platform and in ShipperHQ.

Units of Weight and Dimension and Carriers

Some carriers require specific units of weight for rate requests. The required units may vary based on your account's country, but for some carriers, they remain constant.

Carriers with Conversion Support

ShipperHQ can convert your configured units to those needed by carriers. This is automatic for carriers requiring consistent units. For carriers with varying unit requirements, configure these in the Account Settings under the Basic or Optional tab on the Carrier.

💡 If your business is US-based, set your base unit to Lbs, as most live rate carriers won't return rates otherwise. Conversely, for metric-based countries, use Kgs.

Stay consistent with your settings to ensure a seamless and accurate shipping rate experience. 😊
